Most traditional semi-automatic or manual old roll forming lines can be partially or fully upgraded into automatic production lines based on mechanical frame integrity, while seriously deformed, aging frames are not cost-effective for reconstruction.
The mainstream upgrade projects focus on four core modules. First, replace original discrete control system with integrated PLC+HMI automatic control cabinet, upgrading frequency converters and encoders to realize unified speed linkage of decoiler, forming host and cutting unit, replacing manual speed adjustment. Second, add servo pre-punching mechanism and hydraulic flying shear for fixed-length automatic cutting, eliminating offline manual cutting and secondary processing. Third, install hydraulic coil car and automatic decoiler with hydraulic expansion shaft to realize mechanical coil loading instead of crane and manual feeding. Fourth, equip finished automatic stacking conveyor and counting device to reduce manual collection.
However, upgrade feasibility is restricted by original equipment condition. If the base frame, roller stand and transmission shaft suffer serious deformation, excessive wear or insufficient structural strength, modifying into full-automatic mode needs large-scale mechanical reconstruction with high cost, and purchasing a new machine becomes more economical. Besides, old equipment with outdated spacing layout cannot install inline punching dies due to limited reserved space.
Customers can choose phased upgrading: complete electrical and feeding automation first, then add punching and stacking attachments step by step according to production budget. This segmented transformation lowers one-time investment and gradually improves production automation.
