Is indoor installation mandatory for automatic roll forming equipment?

Indoor placement is recommended but not strictly mandatory for automatic roll forming machines, yet outdoor installation requires targeted protective modifications against harsh natural conditions.

Most fully automatic roll forming lines with precise roller components, PLC control cabinet, servo motors and hydraulic stations are preferentially installed inside enclosed workshops. Indoor environments effectively avoid rainwater erosion, dew rust on rollers and electrical short circuit caused by moisture, as well as direct sunlight accelerating aging of sealing parts, wires and hydraulic rubber tubes. Stable indoor temperature and dust control also keep long-term forming precision and reduce daily maintenance frequency, which is the mainstream choice for large-scale automated production factories.

If clients have limited plant space and need outdoor layout, the whole equipment must be customized with complete outdoor protection: rainproof enclosure covers for electric cabinet and hydraulic station, waterproof coating on roller stands, dustproof and sunshade awning covering the full production line, plus anti-rust oil regularly applied on exposed transmission and forming parts. Equipment grounded reinforcement is also needed to prevent lightning damage to electrical components in thunderstorm weather.

Light-duty simple semi-automatic roll formers for temporary construction processing can be temporarily placed outdoors with basic rain shielding, but long-term outdoor use will shorten roller service life and cause frequent dimensional instability of finished profiles. In conclusion, permanent mass-production automatic roll forming equipment is better to be arranged indoors to guarantee stable processing quality.
