Multiple interconnected factors decide the surface finish of roll formed profiles, mainly including forming roller quality, raw material status, equipment debugging, production environment and operating specifications.
First, roller processing quality is the core factor. Forming rollers made of inferior steel or without quenching heat treatment wear rapidly and produce scratches, indentations and abrasion marks on steel surface. Uneven roller surface finish, eccentric installation or mismatched upper-lower roller clearance will squeeze and scrape galvanized or painted coating, causing peeling and blemishes on finished products.
Second, raw material condition directly impacts surface effect. Rust, burr, dirt and iron scraps on incoming steel coil stick to rollers during feeding and leave continuous scratch lines. Over-hard raw steel and uneven coating thickness also lead to surface cracking or coating fall-off after cold bending. Pre-leveling deficiency makes strip bend randomly in forming path and rub roller edges repeatedly.
Third, equipment and production settings matter greatly. Abnormal vibration caused by loose transmission parts, worn bearings and unstable base frame results in irregular surface ripples. Insufficient lubrication between strip and rollers increases friction damage; excessive forming speed makes material flow uneven and damages outer coating.
Besides, floating metal dust and iron debris in workshop environment adhere to roller surface gradually. Improper manual feeding and strip deviation also create accidental surface bruising during continuous production. Regular roller polishing and raw material inspection can effectively improve finished surface quality.
