Tonnage selection is the core parameter when ordering a hydraulic uncoiler, mainly determined by the maximum single coil weight customers process in daily production. First of all, calculate the actual coil weight: coil weight = coil density × coil cross-sectional area × coil outer diameter. Common low-capacity hydraulic uncoilers with 3T–5T load are suitable for thin PPGI, galvanized and stainless steel coils used in small stamping and light-gauge roof panel roll forming lines, which feature small outer diameter and lightweight raw materials.
Medium specification 6T–10T hydraulic uncoiler is the most popular standard model for C purlin, floor deck and wall panel roll forming manufacturers, matching conventional full-size steel coils from steel mills. For thick hot rolled coils, automotive steel and large aluminum coils, customers need 12T–20T heavy-duty hydraulic uncoiler, usually equipped with a matched hydraulic coil car to complete automatic loading.
To avoid overload damage, the selected rated tonnage should reserve 15%–20% safety margin above the maximum actual coil weight. Special oversized coils for slitting and cut-to-length lines need customized over-20T shaftless hydraulic uncoiler. Meanwhile, raw material thickness, inner diameter and outer diameter of steel strip will indirectly affect bearing capacity, which shall be fully considered before final tonnage confirmation.
